The PS5 only just released in November but already has quite a few must-play games. Here are the best PlayStation 5 games as of December 2020.

The PlayStation 5 only just released in November so its catalog of games obviously isn’t as robust as the PS4. Still, there were quite a few gems released for Sony’s new console in just these first two months. If you were lucky enough to get a PS5 at launch or for Christmas, here are some of the best games you can play for it.

Keep in mind, I’m only using the official PS5 game list from the PlayStation Store, and not including PS4 games that are playable on the PS5 via backward compatibility. This list is PS5 games only. If you want to see what PlayStation 4 games to play, here’s our list of 2020’s best PS4 games.

ASTRO’S Playroom

Astro’s Playroom is a simplistic platformer designed to showcase the power of the PS5 and the potential of the DualSense controller. But I was surprised at just how much fun this game is. It’s a legitimate platformer, with collectibles and everything. It’s not the longest or most challenging, but it’s definitely fun. And best of all, it’s free. It comes pre-installed with every PS5, so definitely check it out.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

I know I said I would stick to PS5 games only, but technically Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has a PS5-specific version and it’s listed on the PlayStation Store. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was one of the many games that released during the limbo period between the end of the PS4 and the beginning of the PS5. Because of that, Ubisoft offers a free upgrade to the digital PS5 version if you purchased it on PS4. Alternatively, you can just buy the PS5 version flat out.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a great game on the PS4, and even better on PlayStation 5 with upgraded audio (thanks to the Tempest 3D Audio Engine), 4K at 60fps visuals and faster loading speeds. Valhalla has been praised for its ability to refine the many gameplay systems typically present in Assassin’s Creed games and streamlining its open-world concept. It has been praised for its Viking theme, action gameplay, and story.

Demon’s Souls

A remake of the 2009 PlayStation classic, Demon’s Souls is the one that started them all. If you’re a fan of Dark Souls, Bloodborne or any of these other challenging action-RPGs, then Demon’s Souls is a must-play. Admittedly, it’s not really as hard as the ones that came later because it was the first to forge the path. Demon’s Souls is probably the most “next-gen” feeling game currently available on the PlayStation 5, with impressive visuals and incredibly fast load speeds. If you’ve never playd a Souls game, this is probably a good place to start.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is another one that’s also playable on PS4, but just downright better on PS5. It’s probably the game that convinced many to go out and buy a PS5 at launch even though it pretty much feels like an extension of 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man. As far as superhero games go, this is simply one of the best there is. I recommend playing the original game first before diving into this. The Ultimate Edition includes a remastered version of Marvel’s Spider-Man as well as Miles Morales.

The PlayStation 5 is still very much in its infancy. The library isn’t as fleshed out as the PS4 but thankfully with backward compatibility, you can play most PS4 games on your PS5. So be sure to check out our best PS4 games of 2020 list.
