PS5: Where to buy a PlayStation 5 on Black Friday
The PlayStation 5 is one of this year’s hottest items but it’s sold out everywhere. Where can you find a PS5 this Black Friday?
Looking to buy a PlayStation 5 this holiday season? Usually, Black Friday is the day for deals but the PS5, which launched earlier this month, is one of the most in-demand items of the year.
Retailers have been trying to keep up with demand but have been unsuccessful thus far. The new PlayStation console has been selling out almost the instant it gets restocked online. So for Black Friday, it may prove to be rather difficult to get your hands on the PS5.
But if you want to try, here are some of the retailers you should check with.
Walmart
Walmart actually restocked the PS5 on November 25 at 9:00 p.m. ET, but the consoles sold out in minutes. The retailer currently lists the system as “out of stock” with no update as to when they will get more.
Walmart usually provides a bit of early notice when they are about to restock the PS5, so keep an eye out on the company’s Twitter account as they usually provide a date and time. Walmart has been running its “Black Friday” sale for a few days now so it’s hard to say if a PlayStation 5 will be available on the actual day (Nov. 27).
Regardless of “Black Friday,” Walmart should have limited PS5 availability throughout the holiday season.
GameStop
The largest video game retailer will have limited PS5 consoles available on Black Friday. Unlike other retailers, which are keeping sales to mostly online-only, GameStop will actually have consoles available for purchase in-store.
In the official GameStop weekly ad for Black Friday, the retailer confirms “all stores will have a minimum of two PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles at store opening.” GameStop stores will open for Black Friday on November 27 at 7:00 a.m. It’s possible the console will also be available for purchase online.
Amazon
The massive online retailer has not said whether or not PS5 consoles will be available on Black Friday. Amazon usually doesn’t provide any notice either. The website currently lists the PlayStation 5 as unavailable, adding: “We don’t know when or if this item will be back in stock.”
If Amazon does get a shipment, don’t expect them to make a big announcement. If you want a notification, I suggest following @Wario64 or @PS5StockAlerts on Twitter.
Best Buy
Best Buy has been running its Black Friday sale for over a week now. The electronics retailer had the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition available on November 22 but they quickly sold out.
Best Buy’s holiday ad also mentioned Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 26) and Cyber Deals (Nov. 28) for additional sales but it’s unclear if the PS5 will be available. The retailer’s Black Friday FAQs specifically mention November 22 as the date the consoles will be available, adding: “We have not announced the time they will be available that day.”
Target
Target has made no mention of additional PlayStation 5 stock during the week of Black Friday. The retailer’s weekly ad highlights next-gen games and peripherals but not actual consoles.
BJ’s
BJ’s is a wholesale club so this may be a good option to check if you’re a member. The retailer did offer a PS5 bundle the weekend before Black Friday. It came with two DualSense controllers and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales – Ultimate Edition. It was also priced at $639.99 instead of the $499.99 you’d pay for just the console. If you want a PS5 and don’t mind paying extra for some games and controllers, this may be a good option — if BJ’s adds more in stock. Keep an eye out on the retailer but so far nothing official has been announced.
Costco
Costco is another wholesale club like BJ’s where you pay a membership to shop there. Costco also had PS5 bundles for members only but they are currently out of stock. If you pay to shop at Costco, it’s worth keeping an eye on.
Sony PlayStation Direct
Sony’s PlayStation Direct store page consistently makes new PS5 consoles available for purchase but there’s no guarantee any will be available for purchase on Black Friday. If any do become available, you are entered into a queue with a progress bar that estimates how long you’ll have to wait. If there are still some in stock when it’s your turn, you can buy a PS5.
