After the largest launch in Xbox history, Microsoft is now working with retail to resupply Xbox Series X and S hardware as quickly as possible.

The Xbox Series X has broken Microsoft’s records and is officially the largest launch in Xbox history. Taking to social media, Microsoft’s Phil Spencer confirmed:

"In 24 hrs more new consoles sold, in more countries, than ever before."

Spencer obviously didn’t reveal specific numbers but it’s safe to say the reason the Xbox Series X is sold out everywhere has more to do with consumer demand than lack of supply. Speaking of supply, Spencer also confirmed that Microsoft is working with retailers to resupply stock of Xbox Series X and S consoles “as quickly as possible.”

With Black Friday and the holidays rapidly approaching, it would be a huge missed opportunity for Microsoft to not be able to deliver more Xbox Series X|S consoles in time. One would assume that most major retailers will have at least some Xbox consoles in stock for the biggest shopping day of the year. And I’m sure they’ll get shipments throughout the holiday season leading up to Christmas.

More from Microsoft

Best Buy has already promised to have a limited number of Xbox Series X consoles available online on Black Friday and I would guess others will too. Because of COVID, I fully expect most retailers to stick with the online ordering format as to avoid massive crowds during the pandemic.

Unfortunately, I’ve got no real answer as to when we can expect more Xbox Series X|S consoles to resupply. There’s no timeframe or timetable or industry standard for resupplying stock online.

Is it better for retailers to announce a restock ahead of time and then having consumers flood the website all at once? Or is it better to just quietly restock and whoever checks the website at the right time is the lucky winner?
