In honor of Halloween being less than two weeks away, here are three horror video game franchises that will get you ready for Halloween.

It’s the spooky season! It’s that time of the year when people are scrambling on what Halloween costume they want to try and recreate. Television stations are flooded with tons of your favorite horror icons and people scattered across the country have their houses decorated in Halloween decorations.

Halloween is an eerily fun time of year if you like the chilling atmosphere. While most people like to spend their time watching horror movies, you can also get yourself hyped up for Halloween by playing some horror video games.

Horror video games are very similar to watching a horror movie. The only difference is that instead of watching someone else’s experience, you are playing the game as if you were a part of the story itself. You may think that a video game would never have the capability or even the capacity to scare you, but you would be utterly surprised.

While horror video games do not always have the greatest hype and you do not hear much about them, there are some games that are definitely worth a play that will get your blood flowing just in time for Halloween.

Outlast

Outlast is a horror franchise that just looking at the cover of the video game will send shivers down your spine. The name of the title is very fitting for this game because you are trying to outlast and survive this deranged horror story. Like any typical horror video game, you are given limited resources that you have to try and use to survive.

The main purpose of Outlast is that you are an investigative journalist that is trying to investigate a remote psychiatric hospital named Mount Massive Asylum, located deep in the mountains of Lake County, Colorado. The games take you all throughout the psychiatric hospital and let’s just say that the hospital is not somewhere where I would want to be admitted into. There are moments in the video game that will have your heart beating out of your chest. There is also a handful of jump scares that literally come out of nowhere. If you think that a video game can’t make you jump or flinch, then you clearly haven’t played this game before. If you think you can handle a few jump scares, give it a go.

If you enjoy Outlast and want to get more of that Outlast fix in, well then there is some good news. There is an Outlast Whistleblower DLC and a sequel to the original game called Outlast 2. In 2017, a video game bundle called Outlast Trinity was released so that fans can get all three games in one bundle. Give it a shot if you are looking for something spooky to play.
