Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War PS4 to PS5 upgrade explained

Cross-Gen Digital Edition

If you know you’ll be buying a PlayStation 5 at launch or in the near future, the easiest, the most straight forward path to upgrading between versions is the Cross-Gen Digital Edition. Priced at $69.99, this includes the digital versions of both a PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 copy of the game.

When you purchase this, the PS4 version will download immediately to your console on November 13, when the game launches. The PS5 version will automatically be added to your account library and become playable when you purchase a PlayStation 5 console.

Purchasing the Cross-Gen Digital Edition will also get you early access to the upcoming Multiplayer Open Beta as well as the Woods Operator Pack for use in Modern Warfare and Warzone.

Because this is a digital version of the game, it doesn’t matter which PlayStation 5 model you end up purchasing.

Digital Ultimate Edition

Priced at $89.99, this also includes both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game along with the “Land, Sea, and Air Pack,” and the Battle Pass Bundle (which includes 20 immediately activated Tier Skips).

The “Land, Sea, and Air Pack” is a collection of cosmetics featuring  three Operator skins, three vehicle skins, and three developer-crafted weapon blueprints

One last note…

Keep in mind, that upgrading must be done within the same family of consoles. So if you buy the PS4 version, you will not be able to upgrade to the Xbox Series X version and vice versa with Xbox One to PS5.
