Digital vs Physical

If you purchase the game digitally on PS4, you’ll be able to download it from your account’s digital library on PS5.

The phsyical PlayStation 4 version of Black Ops Cold War will have an option to upgrade to PlayStation 5 through the PlayStation Store; however, you must have the PS4 disc inserted into the PS4 to access the digitally upgraded PS5 version of the game. That means if you buy the physical PS4 version of the game, you’ll need to own the PlayStation 5 with the disc drive ($499.99) and not the Digital model ($399.99). The PS4 physical game disc will need to remain in the disc drive every time you play it on PS5.

The Standard Edition (physical or digital) will cost $59.99 on PlayStation 4. You can upgrade that to the PS5 version by paying an additional $10. Basically, you’ll be paying a total of $69.99, which reflects the cost most publishers will be charging for AAA games on next-gen consoles.

The Standard Edition is probably the smartest version to buy if you’re not sure if or when you’ll be getting a PlayStation 5.
