The Week 2 roster update for Madden 21 is live, hours before we get to watch Joe Burrow lead the Cincinatti Bengals into Cleveland to take on Baker Mayfield and the Browns. Here are the biggest changes the roster update brings.

After a solid opening week of NFL games that actually saw polished play considering there were no preseason games, Madden 21 has released the Week 2 roster update with their first player ratings adjustments of the season. We had our own predictions of who should rise and fall in the Week 2 roster update, with increases for players like Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Aaron Rodgers, while Rob Gronkowski and Baker Mayfield should lose a point or two.

Do those predictions come to pass? I was actually right in the ones that EA highlighted in their roster update post. Here are the biggest changes from the Madden 21 Week 2 roster update…

Changing of the guard at HB in Detroit

After leading the Lions in rushing, Adrian Peterson increased from a 78 to 80 OVR with a boost of 5 to awareness. Meanwhile, Kerryon Johnson dropped four points down to a 78 after a 7 carry 14 yard performance where Peterson outshined him. Johnson was actually tied for the biggest drop among players.

Cowboys Aldon Smith gets rewarded after strong performance

RE Aldon Smith, climbed 3 points in OVR this week up to a 74. He led the Cowboys with 11 tackles (6 solo) with 1 sack and 1 tackle for loss.

Young QB falls, Old QB rises

Browns QB Baker Mayfield looked awful against the Ravens in Week 1, so he dropped down 1 point to a 77 OVR. Meanwhile, Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, went up 1 point to a 90 (I still think he should be a 92) OVR after his 4 TD performance against the Vikings.

Seahawks QB Russell Wilson also went up a point to 98, inching closer to the 99 club.

Overrated Gronk still overrated?

I’d personally put him at a 90 after a year off from football and an awful Week 1 performance, but Bucs TE Rob Gronkowski fell 1 point this week to go down to a 91 OVR.

Josh Jacobs getting the love he deserves

Raiders HB Josh Jacobs got boosted from 88 to 90 OVR, which is well deserved after his elite performance in Week 1. He is looking more and more like a complete back every week, and if he keeps up this performance, I predict a 94/95 OVR by the end of the season.

3 Big names fall

HB Aaron Jones, HB Saquon Barkley, and WR Odell Beckham Jr all lost a point on their OVR this week. Jones fell to 89, Barkley to 90, and Beckham to 90.

Risers in the AFC West

There’s a ton of young, exciting players that got rewarded for their performances in Week 1 that reside in the AFC West:

  • Chiefs HB Clyde Edwards-Helaire +2 to 76 OVR
  • Chargers SS Desmond King II +2 to 87 OVR
  • Raiders SS Jonathan Abram +2 to 75 OVR (including +1 to 92 Speed)
  • Broncos TE Noah Fant +1 to 75 OVR
