With Sonic the Hedgehog’s 30th Anniversary next year, we take an early look at the five worst characters in the franchise.

Sonic the Hedgehog‘s 30th Anniversary is next year. Following Nintendo’s announcements celebrating Mario’s anniversary, people have already started speculating on what’s in store for the blue blur and thinking fondly of potential remasters.

Surprisingly none of them are talking about Sonic Shuffle and shame on all of you for that. And while everyone is thinking of things they remember fondly, to quote the poet laureate, Selena Gomez, “it ain’t me.”

You’re telling me you don’t want Sonic Shuffle, a Mario Party-esque game where character choice matters and instead of Bowser you get a VERY creepy version of Eggman? Whatever, dude.

What I’m going to do is dig DEEP into the lore of Sonic the Hedgehog and find some of the worst characters the Sonic universe has ever found. I don’t mean just the games. Oh no. I’m talking about books, comics, things like that.

And when I say I picked five I don’t say that easily. The Sonic universe contains some of the worst characters, strangest designs and most uncomfortable writers I’ve ever researched so when I picked five, they were the finalist in a group of about 40.

Also, no cop-outs here. Everyone rags on Shadow the Hedgehog and Big the Cat but honey, it gets so much worse so strap in as, in no particular order, we dig into five of the worst characters in the Sonic U.
