Kansas City Royals

I look at the Royal as a slightly easier rebuild in MLB The Show 20 than the Orioles. The difference here is that the Royals have more prospects to be excited for headlined by these A potential prospects:

  • SP Kris Bubic
  • SP Brady Singer
  • C M.J. Melendez
  • 1B Nick Pratto
  • SS Bobby Witt Jr.
  • CF Kyle Isbel
  • CF Michael Gigliotti

Most of these players are close to 70 OVR, so they’re close to being called up. That’s a lot to build around, but let’s not forget that you have 24-year-old 85 OVR SS Adalberto Mondesi.

So what is there to move in order to get pieces you want? 31-year-old 2B Whit Merrifield is on a cheap contract (4 years at $4.1M/year) and is rated 90 OVR, so that can get you something nice in return. C Salvador Perez (81 OVR) and RF Jorge Soler (79 OVR) also can be moved, and both of their salaries hover around $8M. There’s a couple of older pitchers on high paying deals like Ian Kennedy and Danny Duffy that you probably want to trade. And there’s decisions to be made on in-between guys like third basemen Hunter Dozier and Maikel Franco.

The Royals are definitely and interesting choice for a rebuild, but as you can see, they have quite a bit of talent in the pipeline.
