Hawkeye will join Earth’s Mightiest as post-launch DLC for Marvel’s Avengers

When the Earth’s Mightiest assemble in Marvel’s Avengers, the roster of playable heroes will be somewhat limited at first. However, following the game’s launch in September, Crystal Dynamics plans to release additional downloadable content.

During today’s WAR TABLE for the upcoming action-adventure game, Crystal Dynamics gave us a sneak peak at some of their post-launch plans, announcing the first DLC character: Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye.

Hawkeye will come with his own story mission chain separate from the campaign that’s playable either solo or co-op. He’ll also come with a new villain but that remains a mystery for now. Hawkeye’s greatest villain is probably William Cross, aka Crossfire, so it’s possible that could be the mysterious character. However, Trickshot, Baron Helmut Zeemo, Hangman and Whirlwind are also notable enemies.

Like the six core heroes in the game — Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow and Kamala (Ms. Marvel) — Hawkeye (and all future DLC characters) will come with their own custom move sets and combos, Skills, Gear, Heroics, outfits, emotes and name plates. As characters in Marvel’s Avengers are inspired by “over eight decades of Marvel history,” Crystal Dynamics has gone back to the comics for some of Clint Barton’s alternative outfits. The one that was shared comes from the “My Life as A Weapon” comic.

Hawkeye’s omission from the six core heroes felt a bit odd as he was prominently featured in Marvel’s Avengers movies. Of course, Crystal Dynamics game isn’t based on the blockbuster film franchise but you’d think they’d want to capitalize on its popularity and feature as many of the big screen characters as possible. To that, it was fairly obvious Hawkeye would eventually be included as a downloadable character, so it’s really no surprise he’s the first to be revealed.

Although Marvel’s Avengers will have microtransactions, heroes and other additional content will be free so you won’t have to pay a dime to unlock Hawkeye when he arrives. Marvel’s Avengers is set for launch on September 4.
