Madden 21: How to get a code for this weekend’s Closed Beta
A Closed Beta for Madden 21 kicked off tonight and will run through the weekend.
Electronic Arts has kicked off the Closed Beta for Madden 21, sending out invites to a select number of players earlier this evening. As a Closed Beta, it means you would have had to have been invited to participate. So how can you get a code?
Well, the first wave of players invited had signed up through the “Good Morning Madden” registration link in June. Additionally, “nearly all competitors who earned MCS points last year” also received a code, so check your MCS email address. Lastly, the top 10,000 Ultimate Team and 10,000 franchise players “by actual playtime” were also invited.
If you aren’t part of this wave, all hope is not lost. There are tons of promotional partners sending out codes via social media. EA, Madden developers, influences, content creators, athletes and even NFL teams are all handing out codes, so you just have to hope to be lucky enough to snag one.
The Madden 21 Closed Beta runs for this weekend only. It went live on Thursday, July 2 at 8:30 p.m. ET and will end on Sunday, July 5 at 11:59 p.m. ET. As a Closed Beta, there is no gameplay streaming, recording or capturing allowed although I’m not sure if the NDA includes preview impressions.

As for the contents of the Closed Beta, it includes Online Head-to-Head and Play Now along with four teams: Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Atlanta Falcons. I can understand including the Ravens and Chiefs since they have two of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the league in Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes. The Buccaneers were included for the obvious reason being Tom Brady. I’m not sure how the Atlanta Falcons fit it.
While the Closed Beta provides players a chance to go hands-on with this years game, it’s important to remember its purpose is to provide the developers with important feedback. The feedback you provide will help shape Madden 21 ahead of launch.
EA has spent the past few weeks offering details on Madden 21‘s gameplay improvements. A recent deep dive provided in-depth details on run defense and tackling improvements, quarterback and passing enhancements, catching responsiveness, player fatigue, kicking game tuning and more.
Madden 21 is slated for release on August 25, 2020. Those who are EA Access members will to play the game five days early on August 21.
