PS5 event start time: How and where to watch the PlayStation 5 reveal
Sony will reveal the PlayStation 5 today alongside PS5 gameplay.
Today, we will officially see the future of gaming on PlayStation 5. Sony’s highly anticipated PS5 reveal event will take place today, after a week-long delay in recognition of the Black Lives Matter protests against social injustice and system racism. While these issues obviously remain important, progress is being made and key voices are being heard, so Sony is ready to get back to gaming.
If you plan on tuning in today, here are the details for when, where and how to watch.
When?
The PlayStation 5 reveal event will air on Thursday, June 11 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time / 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time / 9:00 p.m. BST.
Where to watch?
Because of the coronavirsu outbreak, this event is an all-digital affair, meaning no live audience to react to the exciting reveals and announcements. This is a pre-taped program that will broadcast at 1080p and 30 frames per second, so it obviously won’t be fully representative of what we’ll see when we actually get to play PS5 games on a 4K TV. The reason for the broadcast quality, according to Sony, was to “ease the show’s production process during a time when many of our team and developers are working from home.”
You can catch the stream for Sony’s PS5 reveal event on the official PlayStation YouTube and PlayStation Twitch channels.
How to watch?
This may seem like a silly thing since the only way to watch the PS5 reveal event is through a stream. However, Sony specifically mentions that you should watch while wearing headphones.
"“…there’s some cool audio work in the show, and it might be harder to appreciate if it’s pumped through your phone or laptop speakers.”"
What to expect?
We already know games will be a big focus during the event. The program will run for a bit more than an hour. It will feature games coming to the PlayStation 5 from studios across the industry and globe, both large and small, newer and already established. Certain publishers and developers have already confirmed their games to be coming to next-gen consoles, but you can bet there will certainly be some surprises.
I’m assuming we’ll also get to see what the console actually looks like. To date, Sony has only discussed what’s inside the box, but we’ll hopefully get to see how sleek the box actually looks. Sony revealed the DualSense wireless controller a few months ago and it looked sharp. Hopefully the PS5 console itself matches.
I don’t think we’ll hear any talk about pricing just yet and I don’t think Sony is ready to announce an exact release date. Right now, the PS5 is slated for a “holiday 2020” release window.
