Yes Virginia, there IS an alien in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Here’s what you need to do to spot the UFO and experience a strange encounter.

For a while now I’ve been hearing rumors of an alien in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I have wanted to see if it was true but without doing two things I thought it required: either wake myself up at 3:30 a.m. or alter the clock in my system settings. Last night, however, my curiosity got the best of me so I set my alarm.

Beyond being up at dumb o’clock, I was told I would need a TV. Luckily, I wrote that article about item duplication so that was absolutely not a problem. So I set up a TV… or two.

After that, I was told I just had to wait until exactly 3:33 a.m. After the familiar sound of my alarm playing Professor Layton’s Puzzle Theme woke me up in the middle of the night, I went into my room with the TVs and I sat and waited, listening to only the sounds of the TV static coming from all my screens.

Then, the clock hit 3:33 a.m. and all the static froze. It was the first time in Animal Crossing history that something actually kind of creeped me out. Suddenly, the static disappeared and I saw an image of an all white room with a silver alien in the distance.

The room on the screen went black and the alien got close to the camera. It delivered a message in the Animal Crossing gibberish language. Speaking in a neutral voice, its red eyes starring into my very soul.

It then cut over to a UFO hovering in the air. The image of the UFO was accompanied by very quiet and very strange music. It’s the same UFO that you’ve been able to craft in other various Animal Crossing games.

It continued to cycle between the close ups of the alien and the UFO, back and forth. Then… it hit 3:34 a.m. and…static. It just cut right back to TV static as if nothing ever happened. But I had seen it. The strangest of all Animal Crossing‘s weird secrets and you can too.

Get yourself a TV. Then, on Saturday morning (only Saturday morning) you need to be looking at it the moment your game says it’s 3:33 a.m.. That’s it. Enjoy. The truth is now out there.
