NHL 21 is right around the corner and there is no better way to spark conversation about the game than discussing this year’s potential cover athletes.

As far as we all know, EA Sports NHL 21 is right around the corner. Usually by this time of year, we begin to speculate what new features the game might bring and what NHL athlete will grace the cover.

EA Sports revealed their cover athlete for NHL 20 on June 20, 2019. We are just a little over a month away from that same date and no news about the game has been confirmed. We can only expect that sometime in June we will get the news on this years cover athlete along with new features as long as EA follows the same patterns as years past.

Generally the person chosen to be on the cover of any sports video game is symbol of what hockey represents for the year. For example, Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks has been the cover athlete for EA Sports NHL games on two separate occasions; NHL 11 and NHL 16. The reason for why he might have been on the cover for those two games would most likely be because Toews led the Chicago Blackhawks to win the Stanley Cup the year prior to the release of both those games in 2010, and 2015.

Unfortunately, the 2019-2020 NHL season has been put on hold due to the lowsy Coronavirus which kind of puts a damper on the pace of how players were playing. Players were setting personal bests in terms of performance, but now the pace of the game has been stopped for almost two months. If the NHL season does end up resuming, I am sure that the pace the players were producing at will be slowed down drastically which is such a shame.

Like previously stated, the cover athlete will usually represent what the meaning of hockey is all about. That being said, each of the potential cover athletes that will be talked about will be unique in their own way and each are easily viable for their own specific reason. I would be shocked if the cover athlete was not one of these following candidates. Without further ado, let’s get started!
