Madden 21 launching ‘Summer 2020’ with free upgrade to Xbox Series X
Those who purchase Madden 21 on Xbox One before December 31, 2020, will be eligible to upgrade to the Xbox Series X version for free.
During Microsoft’s Inside Xbox, EA finally lifted the curtain on Madden 21. The publisher/develeoper has been slow to roll out information regarding this year’s Madden. In fact, we only heard that Lamar Jackson would be the cover athlete for this year’s game by a premature announcement by him.
EA still hasn’t officially revealed the cover but on Thursday, we got our first look at Madden 21. Patrick Mahomes presented the future of the franchise on Xbox Series X. Just a snippet of gameplay was shown with an emphasis on feeling “next level.” I don’t know what that means and the trailer did little to elaborate but we’ll probably find out more at EA PLAY Live on June 11.
EA instead used this moment to announced that Madden 21 will be coming to Xbox Series X — a move many of us expected. However, it will launch this summer on Xbox One first.
Thankfully, you won’t have to drop double the money if you plan on upgrading to the Xbox Series X this holiday season. EA and Microsoft are allowing those who purchase Madden 21 for Xbox One to upgrade to Xbox Series X at no additional cost.
There is a slight catch though. In order to be eligible for the upgrade , you must purchase Madden 21 on Xbox One by December 31, 2020 and upgrade to Xbox Series X by March 31, 2021.

EA didn’t detail what the differences between the two versions will be, but I imagine the visuals and graphics will be the most noticeable enhancement. Madden 21 will probably run on the same engine for both consoles so I can’t imagine the gameplay will be much improved between versions.
EA didn’t reveal if the same upgrade will apply to PlayStation, only saying they’ll have more news on other platforms at EA PLAY Live. Additionally, while the plan is for all of your MUT points, achievements and items to carry over from Xbox One to Series X, it’s still early in development and EA hasn’t hammered out the details.
Madden 21 still doesn’t have a release date announced but its Summer 2020 release window, suggests a launch in August or September for Xbox One. It will hopefully be a launch title for Xbox Series X.
