Check out this guide for tips on how to raise your Happy Home Academy (HHA) rank in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the HHA (or the Happy Home Academy) is a group that many players are familiar with. While not necessarily a shadowy cabal, they have absolutely no problem getting in and out of your home with enough time to absolutely judge every single aspect of your interior layout.

There’s not really a lot of reason to layout your house in a specific way other than to just get the clout of having bigger and better awards. There are bronze, silver, gold and platinum placards they’ll send you when you achieve various ranks that you can hang on the wall. Outside of that, it’s just for fun. But how do the score you? Let’s get into it.

You get points for a lot of different things but you also need to remember you lose points for things too. Leaving trash on the floor is a big one but luckily, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has infinite storage so it’s no longer an issue. Having furniture up against a wall, facing a wall, is also problematic. But if you put a couch in your home with the front against the wall you’ve got a lot more problems to work out within yourself than just your knack for interior design.

In addition to the fact that you get points for every item you place in your home, there are bonuses that help prevent you from turning your home into disgusting storage bins. The only bad part is the game doesn’t really explain these too you at all outside the rare moment when a villager briefly mentions something loosely relating to it. So here are some of the bonuses that we know of.
