New PS4 games for May 2020: The Last of Us Part 2 delay means a quiet month

The Last of Us Part II was supposed to release in May but its delay due to the coronavirus means there’s not much in terms of new PS4 games.

Hopefully, you haven’t burned through your backlog of PlayStation 4 games during this quarantine because there’s not a whole lot coming out in the month of May. Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II once highlighted the calendar but its delay to June made it a quiet month for PS4 owners. I shouldn’t be completely glum though because there are some games coming to PS4 in May that are probably worth checking out.

The most notable release is Minecraft Dungeons. Set in the Minecraft universe and inspired by classic dungeon crawlers, Minecraft Dungeons has all of the bells and whistles you’d expect from an action-adventure RPG. No class system means you can customize your character to your playstyle liking and with local and online multiplayer support, you can kill time raiding dungeons with friends.

Also coming out on PS4 in May is John Wick Hex, an action-strategy game based on the John Wick movie franchise. The game mixes resource management elements into its gameplay as players must load commands into a timeline for John Wick to perform on, as the name suggests, a hex-based grid. This game has been out for PC since October 2019 but will finally make its PS4 debut on May 5.

For those of you nostalgic folk, Star Wars Episode I Racer will be re-released on PlayStation 4 in May. Just about the only good thing to come from The Phantom Menace — besides Darth Maul’s doubled-sided lightsaber — was pod racing. You can experience these thrilling pod races on PS4 on May 12.

I’m personally looking forward to the remastered release of The Wonderful 101, an action-adventure game from PlatinumGames that was previously released only on the Wii U. I, like many others, never owned a Wii U, so its release on PS4 finally gives me a chance to experience the game.
