Kaitlin and Katie

Kaitlin was a character I went on a journey with. I never really understood the character when I was younger, but now that I have kids, one of them being a four-year-old that is just so fast, I totally understand Kaitlin.

Kaitlin and Katie have a very unique relationship in the world of Animal Crossing. Pretty much any time Kaitlin starts gardening or cooking or…existing, Katie takes this as an opportunity to just leave. And not like a kid going outside, this girl will straight up hop a train and get out of the city.

Kaitlin and Katie were designed to give you a way to really show off the fact you could visit other people in Animal Crossing. When you encountered Katie wandering around your town she’d tell you that she got lost. She’s then tell you that her mom is in another town, a town from one of your friends you’ve visited in the past. If you decide to go there, the two meetup and the next day you find a reward in your mailbox. It happened with an alarming frequency.

Kaitlin and Katie’s roles in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Katie is one of the Animal Crossing characters that have been allowed to age. By now she’d either be a teenager or a young adult so here being “lost from mommy” probably doesn’t make as much sense. Instead, maybe we could come up with a new reason for them to be apart.

Maybe we’d encounter one of them and they’d just need to get to the other island for some reason. Maybe Katie needs to meet up with her mom, maybe Kaitlin just wants to go shopping in your friend’s town, it can be varied reasons so it doesn’t just seem like they’re really bad at keeping an eye on each other.

As you do more for them, maybe they’ll come to rely on you and you learn more about them, occasionally receiving gifts for your service. It’s a fun way to give you another reason to travel to friend’s homes.
