Sonny and Donny Resetti

I was incredibly disappointed when I found out that one of my favorite characters had been laid off. That’s the term they used for it when they announced that they were no longer going to come down hard on the people who reset their games. It made me…hold on…what is that rumble. Is that…Resetti?

"“OUT OF ALL THE NERVE. THEY WERE LIKE, SONNY, WHY DON’T YOU GO AND HELP PEOPLE WITH RESCUE SERVICES, WE DON’T REALLY NEED ANYONE TELLING THEM HOW TO PLAY THE GAME. HOW TO PLAY THE GAME?! THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A GOOD PLACE FOR GOOD PEOPLE AND THEY’RE JUST LETTING THESE CHUMPS MESS WITH THE LAWS AND SPACE AND TIME, IT’S A TRAVESTY I TELL YOU! YOU SHOULD NEVER ALTER YOUR GAME, YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO TAKE A MOMENT AND APPRECIATE THE WORLD AROUND YOU AND THE PROGRESSION OF TIME AS IT TAKES PLACE, NOT USING SOME CONTRAPTION FOR TRAVELING THROUGH…”"

Hey! Hey! Resetti, Eric here, I get it buddy. I’m upset by it too. I still play by the book if it makes you feel better. Plus, they’re time releasing the events as DLC so even if they travel through time they no longer have the ability to spoil major events for other people anymore. That’s something right?

“I GUESS…*ahem*…I mean, sorry, I guess so.”

Thanks, Sonny. I’m going to continue on here.

Sonny Resetti, more commonly known as Mr. Resetti, served a role that almost no one else in the history of video games held. Let’s say you’re playing on the Gamecube and you don’t like something that happens in the game and you turn the system off without saving. When you turn the game on, before you start, the ground would rumble and the hardhatted mole, Resetti, would pop up from the ground and just absolutely lay into you, letting you know why you should never reset the game. You would receive a lecture the length of a novella and I loved it.

His brother Donny, no offense to him, didn’t have as big of a role. He mostly lived with Resetti and helped run things with him like the alarm system if someone wasn’t saving properly. Rumor has it that Resetti was transferred to the helicopter system in New Horizons because they didn’t want a character pressuring people, especially after the eliminated some of the benefits you can gain through time travel.

Sonny and Donny Resetti’s role in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

I’ll admit, there isn’t a huge role for lectures against cheaters anymore. Most of the events are now time released DLC instead of unlockable by date and, from everything I noticed from talking with people who do cheat, they just have a harder time keeping villagers happy so…do you, playa.

So what could these mighty moles get up to? I don’t care about the helicopter service as I’ve never ran into a need for it, even with terraforming. I can see how something COULD happen but it’s still not a worthy role. You can’t tell me I have to look at Zipper T. Bunny all day for two days and I don’t even get to see Resetti? Also, what is a mole doing in the sky? How dare you.

Here’s what I want. And this is going to split ya’ll into two camps. The people who’d like this and the people who feel they’d be affected by it.

Get rid of the crappy report system they have now and bring in a second Resetti app. When you use the app is summons the mole to you. From there you tell it what you encountered. Did you see inappropriate art? Did someone find a creative way to swear in the game? Is someone destroying towns and you just don’t want them in yours anymore? Coding wise, the report system will still work the same but with a cool twist. You report art or language and Nintendo reviews it and finds it is, in fact, inappropriate, not only does it get taken down but that player gets a visit. A visit from Resetti himself.

As for banning someone from your town? That’s a bit of a more sensitive issue, they’d use Don for that. Don’s a lover, not a fighter.
