Halloween – October 31

I’ve always enjoyed this event as it always came with some of the better mini-games that the series has featured. There have been minor variations depending on the game but they always center around talking to the pumpkin-faced Jack, who I always felt was Katrina in disguise as they have similar clothing and body color. There’s also the fact that former mayor Tortimer will actually gift you with a replica of Katrina’s tent during the event in one of the past games.

Normally these events involve a Trick-or-Treat themed “Run.” In earlier games, they started off as a thing where you fill your inventory with candy and then try to track down Jack. Other villagers in costume would chase after you. If they caught you, you had to give them candy or else they’d turn something in your inventory into junk or weird items. Giving a candy to Jack would cause him to disappear in a puff of smoke and you’d have to find them again.

Later, they added a new element to the event where only some of the villagers would chase you. The others would stay home and you’d have to go door-to-door. The tricky part here is that there were a series of masks you could buy and then you had to figure out which masks scared which villagers. It was a game about paying attention to your villager while at the same time participating in a strange game of tag.
