Earth Day – April 22

This was actually one of the first events Nintendo hinted at when they started talking about real-time events and this is one I’m looking forward to. Much like how I said the fishing tournament would be a chance for Nintendo to flex their online features, the Earth Day event is going to be a good chance for Nintendo to show how they’ll be adding to the game over time.

The events of the day have not been released yet but normally, much like the real world event, it’s a day that primarily focuses on planting things, appreciating the planet, picking up trash, recycling and all that fun stuff. This time the event is hosted by the adorable, buckeye-headed sloth, Leif.

Leif the Sloth is a character that was first introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf where he ran the Gardening Store. Leif himself is a cute character. He’s chill and he constantly describes things as “happy” in reference to the late, great, Bob Ross.

If this event adds Leif as a permanent character to the game (which I hope it does) and he brings his Gardening Store, this could introduce several things into Animal Crossing: New Horizons that it’s been missing.

One of the things I noticed that was missing when I started really designing my island is bushes. Bushes are another type of plant in previous games and they worked a lot like fences. However, they were a bit more decorative. Admittedly, some of the new fences are really pretty, though.

So here’s another chance for Nintendo to really flex and I’m hoping my seed of hope doesn’t wilt.
