Animal Crossing: New Horizons: List of upcoming events
Fishing Tourney – April 11
Prepare to craft a ton of fishing rods. On April 11, the first fishing tournament in Animal Crossing: New Horizons kicks off.
In past games, the fishing tournaments were special events in which you and the villagers in your town spent the day fishing. Every time you caught a fish you could submit it to the host and it would tell you it’s size. The villagers would be doing the same. That evening, at the end of the event, there would be a ceremony where they announce the winners. First through third place would get a prize, usually some sort of trophy or wall hanging showing you did the thing. It was always a cute little change of pace to the normal fishing grind.
I’m excited for this event. I know it’s not the biggest thing that happens in Animal Crossing but I think this is the perfect opportunity for Nintendo to showcase exactly what we can expect from the game. This would be a stellar chance for Nintendo to incorporate online support, allowing people to take part with more than just their computer controlled villagers. Maybe you’ll also compete with people on your friends/best friends list. Maybe they can give you a single voucher which allows you to pick what island you compete on. You could then fly to someone else’s island and participate there, against your friend and then spend the day with your friend frantically yanking fish out of the sea.
This is a really big chance for Nintendo to shine and I really hope it doesn’t end up being a sea bass.
