Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the perfect game to help with self-quarantine
Animal Crossing: New Horizons released at the perfect time, giving us an escape from the world and a perfect way to battle stir craziness.
It is a very weird time to be alive right now for reasons I know I don’t have to get into. The self-imposed quarantine is in effect in most places and there’s a lot of time to spend indoors. As a result, a lot of social interaction is now temporarily gone from our lives. Luckily, if done right, Animal Crossing: New Horizons can really nail the placebo effect.
One of the first things I recommend is putting up photos of people you know. I added pictures of my family because I’m that guy that does that. If you’re curious how, I posted an article recently that explains it.
Having pictures of real people from your lives makes the game feel a bit more real. It reminds you of the people in your life while you’re exploring this bad headed small island.
Another thing that has helped is to just leave your island open for visitors at all times. As chill as Animal Crossing: New Horizons can be, it’s a deserted island which can leave you wanting for company. Any time I play, I put up an Instagram story that my island is open and then, as I go around collecting wood and fishing, I’ll randomly get a message that someone has arrived. Having a real person to interact helps with the social distancing and company in Animal Crossing is always fun.

It also tends to be kind of cool because you can play the instruments now. Leaving a bunch of random instruments around a campfire can lead to some genuinely goofy moments, especially when you all figure out what song is happening and sync up.

Lastly, use this moment to flex your creative side. Not just with paths and floors but really explore the excellent photo mode. Share them with your friends. Make it a real living world.

In short, I hope the quarantine finds you well and I genuinely hope you take care of yourself. Hopefully, Animal Crossing: New Horizons helps you stay sane during this time and have fun out there.
