Pokemon Go celebrates Pokemon Day all week long!
Pokemon Day is almost here! There are a handful of ways to celebrate the anniversary of the franchise, and Pokemon Go has enough events for trainers to stay focused for the entire week and weekend.
Pokemon Day 2020 will be celebrating the twenty-fourth anniversary of the original release of Pokemon Red and Pokemon Green in Japan. In the twentieth anniversary of the franchise, Pokemon Go was released the summer of 2016 and continued to keep the spirit of Pokemon fans and trainers everywhere more engaged; even introducing a new generation of gamer into the community. Pokemon Go continues to celebrate the importance of Pokemon Day and has exclusive Pokemon that are ready to celebrate with trainers in the app.
The Party Begins
The Pokemon Go events will begin starting today, Feb. 25, at 1:00 p.m. (EST) through next Monday, Mar. 2 ending at the same time frame. In the wild, Let’s Go version mascots Pikachu and Eevee will be wearing party hats to celebrate the franchise holiday. The Kanto starters: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle will all be wearing the same hats hatching from 7 km eggs during the week. So, make sure to send your registered friend gifts to hatch the starter Pokemon you would like to celebrate with for Pokemon Day.
In two-star raids, Nidorino and Gengar will be available and will also be wearing festive party hats. The two iconic Pokemon were the very first creatures seen when turning on the game for the first time. The pair will be taking their signature fight to raids for trainers to challenge and catch during the celebratory week. Gengar will also know the moves ‘Lick’ and ‘Psychic’ if trainers are successful in catching the Ghost/Poison-type Pokemon. If trainers are lucky enough with their encounters, they might be able to catch a shiny Nidorino or Gengar. These raids will only take place on Mar. 1 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. (EST).
Mewtwo Crashes the Party and Bring Friends
The celebration of Pokemon Day, Netflix will distribute the launch of Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back-Evolution. In five-star raids, Mewtwo will be making a return to battle trainers in its signature look from the movie. Armored Mewtwo will be awaiting challenging trainers in legendary-styled raids. If trainers are successful, Mewtwo will have the charged attack Psystrike, a powerful signature move of the Pokemon. Remember, the raids will only go on during the time frame of the celebration, this is your chance to encounter Armored Mewtwo if you have not had the chance yet.
During the plot of Mewtwo Strikes Back, Mewtwo proves it is worth being its own Pokemon Master with cloning the best Pokemon. The clone Pokemon from the movie will be featured in four-star raids during the time of Pokemon Go’s celebration event. Special looks of Venasaur, Charizard, and Blastoise will be featured in the select raids. If a trainer is successful after challenging any of the three Pokemon, be sure to capture a snapshot of your new prize. There is a chance that Clone Pikachu will appear in the photo and the trainer has the opportunity to catch the cloned franchise mascot.
Trainers, make sure to celebrate all week long with your results from Pokemon Day. If you share your photos on any platform of social media, make sure to use the hashtag, “#PokemonDay” for other trainers to praise your victories!
