We use Madden NFL 20 to predict the winner of Super Bowl LIV. Who will it be: the San Francisco 49ers or Kansas City Chiefs?

It’s hard to believe that the 2019-20 NFL season is coming to a close this weekend. Super Bowl LIV, between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs, will take place on Sunday, February 2 with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET. As we’ve been doing all season and throughout the playoffs, we’re using Madden NFL 20 as a way to predict the winners of each game.

Now our original simulation for the NFL Conference Championship round predicted a Tennessee Titans upset over the Kansas City Chiefs, 34-24. I suppose it was possible given the run Tennessee was on, topping the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens. However, that’s not exactly how things played out.

After a heartbreaking loss to the New England Patriots in last year’s Conference Championship game, the Chiefs — led by third-year quarterback (second-year starter) Patrick Mahomes — were able to take care of business. They beat the Titans convincingly, 35-24, at home and punched their ticket to Super Bowl LVI where they’ll face the San Francisco 49ers.

The NFC’s No. 1-seed, the 49ers have done nothing but prove the doubters wrong. After going 13-3 in the regular season, the 49ers have looked sharp in the playoffs. Led by a strong defense and a powerful run game, they haven’t really had to rely too much on former Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. That may not be the case on Sunday, however.

The Chiefs have a high-octane offense, but they’ll also be going up against one of the best defenses in the league. If the Chiefs can score some points early on, they will force the 49ers into a passing situation. However, if the 49ers defense can contain Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelse and Damien Williams, then they can lean on their run game — whether it be Tevin Coleman, Raheem Mostert or Matt Breida — to help control the clock and limit the Chiefs’ offense.

How will things unfold on Sunday? Let’s see what Madden NFL 20 predicts!
