Nintendo Switch: 6 exclusives to look forward to in 2020
There are some very big games in development for the Nintendo Switch. Some are confirmed for 2020 others are not. Here’s a look at what could come next year.
Of the three major platform holders, Nintendo is the only one not launching a new console next year. Of course, Nintendo has always been one to buck the trend and perhaps no console has defied the odds better than the Nintendo Switch.
A hybrid console that you can play at home or take on the go, the Switch’s innovative design and stellar first-party games have driven console sales. With the Switch firmly entrenched in over 38 million homes, Nintendo can sit back and focus on delivering games now.
The Switch has already seen several major blockbusters released during its early lifespan, including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. So what can Switch owners look forward to in 2020?
Nintendo has only announced the release date for a few upcoming games, but there are plenty of others in the pipeline that are expected to release next year. We just don’t have confirmation yet. Here’s a look at what’s coming to the Nintendo Switch in 2020.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons – March 20
Nintendo’s beloved social simulation game is making its Switch debut next year. The game sends you to a deserted island after buying a vacation package from Tom Nook. From there, it’s completely open-ended and up to you to decide what to do. Animal Crossing: New Horizons will, of course, feature tons of customization options — from your character to your home — as well as the new crafting system.
Bravely Default II – 2020
While the name implies this is the second Bravely Default game, it’s actually the third in the series (following Bravely Second). In any case, Bravely Default II is the successor to the original Bravely Default, introducing four new Heroes of Light who are in search of the four Crystals.
No More Heroes 3 – 2020
Travis Touchdown will return to the Garden of Insanity at some point in 2020 with the release of No More Heroes 3. The action-adventure hack-and-slash from Grasshopper Manufacture sees the otaku assassin take on a powerful army of alien invaders.
Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise – 2020
After 10 years, Rising Star Games and TOYBOX are finally giving us a sequel to Deadly Premonition. Original scriptwriter/director Swery and producer Tomio Kanazawa are returning for Deadly Premonition 2, which follows the intertwining stories of FBI Agent Aaliyah Davis and Francis York Morgan. When Davis opens up a case thought to have been solved in 2005, she winds up on a path intertwined with Special Agent Francis York Morgan as they journey between the past and present.
Bayonetta 3 – TBA (maybe 2020?)
Bayonetta was first teased for Nintendo Switch back during The Game Awards 2017. Since then, we haven’t heard much. It’s still listed as TBA by Nintendo and PlatinumGames, but many expect it will release at some point in 2020.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – TBA?
Nintendo surprised everyone during E3 2019 when they announced that a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was in development. 2020 seems like a stretch for this game to be released, but Nintendo has surprised us before.
