After breaking the record for most receptions in a single season, Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas was appropriately increased to 99 Overall in Madden 20.

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas is the newest addition to Madden 20‘s coveted 99 Club, the moniker given to those with an in-game perfect rating of 99 Overall. Previously rated 98 Overall, Thomas was bumped up a point after setting the record for most receptions in a single season.

Thomas recorded 12 catches in Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans, bringing his season total to 145 receptions. The previous record, which stood for 17 seasons, belonged to Marvin Harrison, who had 143 catches in a season. Thomas still has one more game to add to his total as the Saints face the Carolina Panthers in Week 17 with a chance to clinch home field throughout the playoffs.

More from Madden NFL

Following his record-setting day, EA tweeted out that Thomas was added to the 99 Club in Madden 20. However, it’s unclear if this is a limited-time boost like EA gave to Drew Brees when he broke the career passing touchdown record. Although, it’s worth mentioning that Brees received a six-point increase, while Thomas was already at a 98 Overall. Given that it is just a one-point increase, I think Thomas has certainly earned his place among the Madden elite.

With Thomas now a 99 Overall, there are now six players in the 99 Club (five not including Brees): Aaron Donald, DeAndre Hopkins, Patrick Mahomes, Christian McCaffrey and now Michael Thomas. Now it’s worth mentioning that Madden’s ratings are fluid, so players can move in and out of the 99 Club on any given week. The next player tapping on the doorstep is Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who is currently rated 98 Overall.

In his career thus far, the fourth-year receiver has 466 receptions for 5,475 yards and 32 touchdowns. He’s currently the NFL’s leading receiver this season in catches (145) and yards (1,688). Suffice to say, Thomas’ increase in overall rating was certainly warranted. Hopefully, he stays there for the remainder of the season and beyond.
