Sequels, quirky side-scrollers, and dungeon-crawlers: Nintendo’s Indie Showcase had it all. Here are some of the Switch highlights.

Guys and gals, I need you all to dig deep and come to an acceptance of a simple, indisputable fact: Nintendo’s indie presentation was so much better than Sony’s State of Play. There, I said what everyone was thinking but didn’t have the courage to say.

I mean, c’mon, showing a Ghosts of Tsushima teaser for another teaser at The Game Awards? Kingdom Hearts 3 is for nerds, and I’m certainly no nerd, are you? Who has ever even heard of this Resident Evil 3 thing? All of that is child’s play, and Nintendo is firmly entrenching its buttocks at the big kids table.

Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase (R.I.P. the “Nindies” name) had plenty of promising titles to tease us with. Let’s take a stroll down the indie road and talk about six specific announcements that excited us the most.

Sports Story

Kicking off the entire presentation was Sports Story, the sequel to the 2017 golfing-darling Golf Story. As you might be able to surmise from the title, the new title from developer Sidebar Games is looking to throw a bunch more sports into the mix like tennis, volleyball, and soccer.

Although there is seemingly no word on whether or not basketball, the best sport, would be a part of the new experience, it’s certainly a delightful announcement and title to look forward to. After all, the only thing that could possibly be better than golf is literally any other sport (I kidd, I kidd, that was rude, sorry golf fans). The game is set to launch exclusively for the Switch in mid-2020.
