Lamar Jackson is about to become the fastest quarterback in Madden history
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson will become the fastest quarterback in Madden history with a 96 speed rating following this week’s Madden 20 roster update.
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson isn’t only breaking records in the NFL, he’s breaking them in Madden also. With Madden 20‘s roster update this week, Jackson is expected to become the fastest-rated quarterback in Madden history with a 96 speed rating.
The passing of the torch was handled by former dual-threat quarterback Michael Vick, who held the previous record as the fastest quarterback in Madden with a 95 speed rating. Vick, who was an honorary Madden rating adjustor during the Monday Night Football game, made the announcement on the official Madden NFL 20 Twitter account. He presented Jackson with a custom pair of Nike cleats that represent the “changing of the guard.”
The cleats transition from red, representing Vick when he played with the Atlanta Falcons, to purple, which is the color of Jackon’s team, the Baltimore Ravens. The overall speed rating also changes from 95 to 96.
Another funny detail is the line, “Not bad for a RB.” This, of course, is in reference to the many critics who doubted Jackson’s throwing accuracy and ability to play quarterback in the NFL. Jackson quieted those critics when he threw for a franchise record-tying five touchdowns in a Week 1 win over the Miami Dolphins. Following the game, he was asked about his passing performance to which he replied to reporters: “Not bad for a running back.”

Michael Vick currently holds the NFL record most rushing yards by a quarterback (6,109) and most rushing yards by a quarterback in a season (1,039). However, Jackson needs just 164 yards this season to breaking Vick’s 13-year old league record for most rushing yards by a quarterback in a single season. He has rushed for 876 yards so far this season, the fifth-most by an NFL quarterback in a season.
Vick’s dominant season in real life has seen his Madden 20 rating raise from 76 overall, where he began the season, all the way up to his current 87 overall. It’s likely that his overall will also raise this week with the roster update, especially after another five-touchdown performance in his Monday Night Football debut.
When Jackson first came into the league last season, we questioned whether his speed would break Madden, much like Vick. Well, we’ll soon find out. Do you agree with boosting Lamar Jackson’s speed to 96 in Madden 20?
