Warframe guide: How to farm for and build Grendel

Having arrived with Warframe’s The Old Blood update, Grendel is the 42nd warframe in Digital Extremes’ third-person action game. Here’s how to farm for him.

Grendel arrived with Warframe‘s The Old Blood update. The game’s 42nd warframe, Grendel is ravenous and feasts on his enemies, regurgitating them to empower his party and deal damage. While most warframes simply require you to farm for the blueprints and then materials to build them, unlocking Grendel is a little bit different.

While you still do need the blueprints, obtaining them requires you to complete certain missions on Europa using Locators, and getting these items can be a bit of a grind. Simply follow this guide to unlock the necessary blueprints for Grendel and build the 42nd warframe.

Buying the Blueprint Locators

Grendel’s component blueprints are awarded for completing missions on Europa. But to access these missions, you must first purchase Locators from the Arbitration Honors vendor found in any Relay. The Locators cost 25 Vitus Essence each (so 75 in total). This is where the grind begins.

Vitus Essence is a special resource that’s obtained by completing Arbitrations missions, as long as you complete at least one rotation. They also have a small chance to drop from killing Arbitrations Drones. To access Arbitrations, you must first finish your Star Chart completely.

Grinding for 75 Vitus Essence can be a bit of a pain, but thankfully there’s a better method. You could try partying with two other players who are trying to collect the Grendel warframe. If you do this, then each player only needs 25 Vitus Essence, since you can all take part in each other’s missions.

Completing The Locator Missions

Once you purchase a Locator, you will unlock the corresponding unique mission. All three missions are located on Europa and are actually pretty challenging. Enemies range from level 40-45, but here’s the twist: you can’t use Operator mode, and any gear or mods equipped to your Warframe or weapon will be unequipped for the mission. The only exception to these rules are Warframe Augment Mods, Arcane Enhancement, and Sentinel Precepts, whose effects still work. It’s best recommended that you complete these missions with a premade group.

• The Grendel Neuroptics Locator unlocks the Archaeo-freighter, a 20-minute Survival mission. The reward is the Grendel Neuroptics blueprint.
• The Grendel Chassis Locator unlocks the Icefields of Riddah, a 15-wave Defense mission. The reward is the Grendel Chassis blueprint.
• The Grendel Systems Locator unlocks the Mine of Karishh, an Excavation mission where you must collect 800 Cryotic. The reward is the Grendel Systems blueprint.

Once you’ve finished all three missions and have collected all three components, you must then start crafting them. These require resources that you can farm for:

• 2 Argon Crystal
• 12 hours build time

Grendel Chassis

• 15,000 Credits
• 30 Kuaka Spinal Claw
• 25 Condroc Wing
• 20 Tralok Eyes
• 15 Murkray Liver
• 12 hours build time

Grendel Systems

• 15,000 Credits
• 1,125 Circuits
• 125 Fish Meat
• 100 Fish Oil
• 10 Morphics
• 12 hours build time

You can purchase the main Grendel blueprint from the market for 35,000 credits. Manufacturing the Grendel warframe requires an additional 25,000 credits, all three components, 3 Orokin cells and 72 hours build time.
