Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is expected to reveal new and old faces in a period of repression and survival. Here’s what we know of the characters and timeline.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order releases very soon and we will be met with a new adventure along with some familiar faces. Whether that is through a recognizable character like Saw Gerrera or a new planet like Zephyr, there will be a lot to discover in this game. Through cinematic trailers and gameplay footage, we have seen snippets of the story that is to come.

That said, there is a lot to break down from the promotions of this game alone. Inquisitors, Saw Gerrera, the timeline, and many other details have been given to us in small bite-sized pieces. However, Star Wars is a giant universe with a lot of other source material to draw from. So, here is a quick breakdown of the characters and setting for Jedi: Fallen Order.

The Timeline: “Execute Order 66”

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order takes place after Revenge of the Sith and before Rogue One. That means Jedi that escaped the executions are on the run and in hiding. The main protagonist of Jedi: Fallen Order, Cal Kestis, is exactly that. He has been hiding from the repressive Empire for years as a simple worker.

It is discovered that he is a Jedi when he uses his force abilities to save a fellow friend. Being a Jedi during this time is extremely dangerous because the Empire is on the hunt for the rest of them. In fact, there is a whole group of Jedi hunters known as Inquisitors doing the job for them.

The game takes place before Rogue One, which explains why the extremist rebel, Saw Gerrera, is alive and well in this game. This game could take place around the same time the animated show, Rebels, is occurring because he also shows up in that series. However, we are not too sure when exactly this game takes place.

Saw does have a bald head in the Jedi: Fallen Order, which is the same look he has in Rebels. This may indicate he is several years away from the full head of hair in Rogue One, but we can’t be sure.

Inquisitive Sith

The primary protagonist of Jedi: Fallen Order is an Inquisitor known as the Second Sister. There are a total of 13 known Inquisitors. This order is formerly known as the Inquisitorius Program. It is important to note these beings are not Sith like Darth Vader and Darth Sidious. Inquisitors are force sensitive but are very limited in their abilities.

The Inquisitors were primarily used to hunt down Jedi-in-hiding. They will also prevent force-sensitive children from falling into hiding Jedi’s hands.

The first appearance of an Inquisitor was in the aforementioned Rebels show. The Grand Inquisitor was the primary antagonist and is the head of the Inquisitorius Program. Of course, Vader and Sidious have complete control over the group but lead them from day-to-day bases.

The Second Sister is not the only Inquisitor we see appear in this game. The most recent gameplay footage Respawn Entertainment released showed Cal facing off against the Ninth Sister. She is a large Dowutin species who has a knack for tapping into people’s emotions with her force sensitivity.

The last detail you need to know about the Inquisitorius Program is they also controlled Purge Troopers. These troopers are used specifically by the Inquisitors and use electrostaffs to face off against those they are hunting. Inquisitors used their own double-bladed sabers that could spin at their will.

A Larger Connection

Star Wars does an exceptional job of creating a cohesive universe. Characters, places, equipment, and so much more are injected in several different forms of media.

Cal Kesitis is a brand new character and there is no mention of him anywhere else in the Star Wars canon. Unfortunately, this may mean Cal’s story is not all that impactful or he continues living in the shadows. We will have to wait and see how this Jedi fits into the larger world of Star Wars.

Regardless of Cal’s fate, we are all very excited to see Jedi: Fallen Order release on November 15,
