24. Pac-Man – Ghosts

Inky, Blinky, Pinky, and Clyde don’t seem scary in our world, but when you are in the shoes of Pac-Man you begin to worry a little. He is stuck in a labyrinth of corridors with four seemingly friendly ghosts. Unfortunately, they will kill him in an instant. The ghosts of Pac-Man are the greatest threat within the game. You are constantly running from them and you only get to fight back for small amounts of time. Even when you do eat one, they are reborn soon after.

Pac-Man is living in hell where his only rewards are pieces of fruit and getting back at his enemy every once in a while. If any of us were in his shoes then we would certainly break down and cry. Just us? It doesn’t matter if you think these cute ghosts are scary or not. All that matters is you better start running before they catch you.

25. Mario Kart Series – The Blue Shell/Spiky Shell

The Mario Kart video games are full of pieces of equipment used to disrupt your opponents from winning. We can all remember a time when we were in the first place and saw the blue shell of death approaching. It has the potential of setting you back so much that is it absolutely terrifying to see when you are winning. The Blue Shell is not necessarily a monster or enemy but is used by the enemy so it counts.

The Blue Shell is certainly one of the best pick-ups in the Mario Kart series because it can greatly change the tide of a race. You can be several meters ahead of the rest, but that Spiky Shell does not give a damn. It will hit you as hard as it can so that you can fall to second or third place. It is always against you no matter what and its only ever after you. That makes it terrifying.
