2019 World Series: Houston Astros vs. Washington Nationals
Game 1:
In the first game, the Nationals had a healthy lead of 4-0 going into the fourth inning, but the Astros would wake up and score three runs to make things interesting. With both teams going quite for the next couple of innings, it was Houston who made some noise next, adding another run and tying the ballgame up at 4-4.
In the eighth, the Astros would tack on one more run, and that was all she wrote. They would complete the comeback and take game one thanks to a great performance from Yordan Alvarez who had a couple of hits including a home run that proved to be the game-winner.
Astros 5, Nationals 4
Game 2:
The Astros would take game two as well in our MLB The Show 19 simulation, thanks to a dominating performance from Gerrit Cole. The 29-year-old bullied the Nats with 10 strikeouts in six innings pitched, netting him the Player of the Game.
The game was still close at 3-2, but two-hit performances from George Springer, Michael Brantley, and Alex Bregman helped slam the door. The Astros would be just two victories away from another title.
Astros 3, Nationals 2
Game 3:
Game three saw the Nationals return the favor, and earn their first win in a World Series. Patrick Corbin one-upped on Cole’s performance, and absolutely destroyed the Astros with 11 strikeouts and only allowing three hits in the process in our MLB The Show 19 sim.
The performance resulted in a 7-0 victory, where veterans Brian Dozier and Kurt Suzuki enjoyed a multi-hit night. And as the icing on the cake, the Nationals would get a home run from another vet in Howie Kendrick.
Astros 0, Nationals 7
Game 4:
Houston received another rude awakening, as Washington walloped them by a score of 13-0 where Anibal Sanchez turned back the clock with a 6 strikeout effort. Brian Dozier continued his excellent play, with three hits including a home run to his credit. Anthony Rendon also added a long ball to help the Nats tie the series at 2-2.
Astros 0, Nationals 13
Game 5:
The Astros would clap back and take a 3-2 lead in the series. However, it took some heroics from the lineup to give them this highly critical win.
The playoffs are bound to have unlikely heroes, and in this case, it was Yuli Gurriel who, without his performance, Houston would’ve lost this game. The 35-year-old, who came to the majors in 2016, went three for five, including a home run, and the game-winning double in the bottom of the ninth.
Amazingly, the Astros were down 7-4 heading into the eighth but scored a couple in that inning, and then proceeded to get two more in the ninth. This, of course, included Gurriel’s game-ending hit.
Astros 8, Nationals 7
Game 6:
Houston has put themselves in prime position to win their second World Series title. Can they pull it off?
In-game six, the pressure was the Astros to close out the series, after blowing the 2-0 lead they had early on. Of course, there was an equal amount of pressure on the Nationals, as they looked to win their first World Series title in the franchise’s 50-year history.
It was a battle of two powerful arms in Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer, with both pitchers duking it out well. Each mound warrior threw nine and eight strikeouts respectively; however, Verlander had the upper hand, allowing only three hits versus Scherzer’s six.
In the end, the Astros were simply too much to handle, as they took care of the Nats rather easily, defeating them 6-1 to win their second world title. Carlos Correa enjoyed the best night at the dish, getting two hits and two RBI on the night.
The team as a whole would have 10 hits to their credit to end their season in style. Their combination of pitching and hitting clinched them the title.
Astros 6, Nationals 1
So there you have it; according to the MLB The Show 19 machine, the Houston Astros will win the World Series for their second championship in three years. It’ll definitely be fun to see how accurate this ends up being in the real World Series.
