MLB The Show 19: Our NLCS and ALCS simulation results
ALCS: New York Yankees vs Houston Astros
On the American League side, the Astros didn’t waste any time taking a 2-0 series lead on the Yankees. Back-to-back dominant pitching performances by Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole make sure that that was the case.
Both All-Star pitchers combined for 20 strikeouts in both victories. George Springer and Jose Altuve combined for seven hits in the first two games to help lead the Stros offensively.
99 overall club member Alex Bregman also contributed with a couple of hits. The effort with the bats was enough, as the pitching took care of everything.
The Yankees would capture game three, thanks to a monster performance from James Paxton, who didn’t allow a single hit until the ninth inning when former MVP finalist Michael Brantly broke it up. Yup, you read that right, he had a no-hitter, in the ALCS go all the way to the last inning.
He threw in eight strikeouts to make it a truly dominate outing. Other than walking four batters, Paxton’s stat line was nearly as clean as can be.
In probably the most insane playoff game in MLB history in terms of scoring, the Yankees would take game four 37-14 (!!!). No, this is not a typo. The Yankees scored 37 runs.
The most impressive thing about this was that they scored 17 runs in the seventh inning alone. Funnily enough, the Yanks “only” hit four home runs in the game.
Hits were coming in droves on both sides, despite the Stros losing by 23 runs. Giancarlo Stanton came out of the hit fest as the Player of the Game, going 5-for-7 at the dish, with two of those four “little” home runs that we mentioned. The MLB The Show 19 machine clearly felt like spitting out runs.
The Astros got their revenge in game five, thanks to Jose Altuve smacking the ball every which way, including going deep for a home run. Houston would end up being one win away from going back to the World Series for the second time in three years.
Game six was a classic beatdown, as Houston defeated New York 8-1 to advance to the World Series. Oddly enough the Yankees had more hits than the Astros, but Houston still managed to pile up the runs.
Robinson Chirinos would have one of the biggest games of his career, going 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI. This would net him the Player of the Game, as he single-handily crushed the Yankees’ chances of reaching the World Series.
So there you have it. Our MLB The Show 19 simulation predicts that the Nationals and Astros will battle it out in the Fall Classic in what would be a first-time meeting in the series.
