Minnesota Twins vs. New York Yankees

It seems like it wasn’t that long ago when the Twins and Yankees regularly played each other early in the playoffs. Now, the two slugging teams will duel once again, this time, with an ALCS birth on the line.

This series was also fairly tight, with Minnesota hanging to eliminate New York three games to two. In the first game, the Twins, who broke the major league record for home runs in 2019, didn’t disappoint in our MLB The Show 19 simulation.

The homer-happy Twins dropped 23 (nope, this isn’t a typo!) runs to absolutely nuke the Yankees who only managed to score five runs. Everyone in the lineup contributed, but it was Miguel Sano who went Super Saiyan with six hits, including three home runs, nine RBI and a massive .857 average, as it was a show for the ages.

On top of this, in a stunning move, the Yankees left pitcher Luis Severino on the mound for the entirety of the game where he ended with one of the wildest stat lines ever. He allowed all 32 hits and all 23 runs but finished with 11 strikeouts in the process. His ERA made it to an insane 23.00, in one of the strangest managerial decisions of all-time (digitally).

But, the old Yanks would make things winning two of the next three games including a 13-1 smackdown in game four. The Twins took an early 3-0 lead after the first inning of game five but got a little scare when the Yankees tied things up in the bottom of the ninth.

But, Minnesota would seal the deal in the 10th, with a game-winning run that sent them to their first ALCS since 2002. That season, they lost to the eventual world champs, the Angels, four games to one. But, with the immense power that the lineup has, they could pose a threat if they advance in the real playoffs.
