ALDS: Tampa Bay Rays vs. Houston Astros

This is one of the more intense series’ in the playoffs, with the Rays pulling off the upset, beating the always loaded Astros, three games to two. The first four games were decided by two runs or less.

Oddly enough, the last two games were blowouts, with the Astros hammering the Rays 9-0 in game four, and the Rays destroying the Stros 7-1 in the final game. But, the biggest thriller of the entire series was in game three, where Rays squeaked out a 10-9 victory.

The game saw home runs from Tampa Bay’s power hitters, Tommy Pham, and Yandy Diaz while Houston got a power surge as well. Robinson Chirinos knocked one out and Yordan Alvarez blasted two cannons by himself.

Losing 9-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Rays would explode for five runs to bring the Astros’ lead to just one. They would then go on to get a run in the ninth and tenth innings, to win the game in thrilling fashion and give themselves a comfortable 3-1 series lead.

As you can expect, the pitching was awful in that game, with Zack Greinke finishing with a 7.50 ERA in six innings pitched. Meanwhile, his counterpart, Tyler Glasnow had a whopping 16.20 ERA (no, this is not a joke) in three innings pitched.

The sticks did all of the talking in that game and helped lead the Rays to their second ALCS in franchise history. We’ll see if the young squad has what it takes to reach the World Series (in MLB The Show 19) for the first time since 2008.
