The closest game you are going to get to play before the release of Cyberpunk 2077 is the game it is based on, Cyberpunk 2020.
Cyberpunk 2020 is a tabletop-RPG created by Mike Pondsmith. The game released in 1990 and was published by R. Taslorian Games. CD Projekt Red is taking direct inspiration from the tabletop game such as the skills and equipment. Like the upcoming video game, the tabletop features plenty of roles players can select when starting out. Even the city, Night City, is being pulled straight from this retro tabletop gem.
This game is especially perfect to get a feel for what the video game world will feel and look like. Granted, we have been given peeks at what that already looks like, but sometimes your imagination does a better job at creating the world around you. Plus, you can gather a handful of friends around the kitchen table for a fun night of roleplaying.
With a release date of April 16, 2020, it’s quite possible you can get through many of these series in time for Cyberpunk 2077‘s arrival. What better way to pass the time?
