State of Play: Start time, where to watch and what to expect
Here are some possible games and announcements we can expect to see during PlayStation’s State of Play event today.
Sony’s State of Play is set to air today, Tuesday, September 24. The broadcast is expected to run for 20 minutes and promises “new game reveals, new content from PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios,” and other updates as well.
Here’s everything you need to know about today’s State of Play, including a few predictions and what to expect.
State of Play start time
PlayStation’s State of Play will kick off at 1:00 p.m. PT / 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, September 24. It will run for about 20 minutes, so you should also be able to catch Microsoft’s Inside Xbox show later on in the day.
Where to watch today’s State of Play
The State of Play will be hosted in all of Sony’s usual social media channels, including:
What to expect and what not to expect
First off, don’t expect any updates regarding Sony’s next-gen console. While we’re all very excited for what is expected for the PS5, Sony has already stated they will not be sharing any next-gen plans.
So what can we expect? New game reveals, new content from PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios and more. These studios include Naughty Dog (The Last of Us II), Santa Monica Studio (God of War), Guerilla Games (Killzone) and the most recent acquisition, Insomniac Games (Marvel’s Spider-Man).
Of all the studios, the only confirmed game for the State of Play is Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II.
Naughty Dog has posted multiple teasers like this to social media, but no concrete details as to what we can expect to see. I’m going to assume we’ll see some more gameplay, but I’m also hoping that we finally get a release date for the highly anticipated sequel.
What other games could be shown?
Beyond The Last of Us Part II, all we can do is speculate. Sony has many exciting games in the pipeline and today’s State of Play could be the perfect time to showcase them.
Concrete Genie: PixelOpus’s action-adventure is a PS4 exclusive launching next month. Expect to see a trailer for the gorgeous-looking game.
MediEvil: Another exclusive releasing in October, MediEvil is a remake of the classic 1998 PlayStation game. It’s possible we could get a brief reminder that this will release next month.
Death Stranding: Easily one of the most anticipated PS4 exclusives this month, Death Stranding is just a little over a month away. I’m almost certain we’ll see more of Hideo Kojima’s bizarre-looking open-world game, but I’m not guaranteeing anything will make sense.
Ghosts of Tsushima: We still don’t have a release date for Sucker Punch Productions’ action-adventure game. Hopefully, that changes today.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Activision promised campaign footage at the end of this month and this would seemingly be the best time to drop it.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered: While not necessarily a huge game, Sony has a vested interest in the Ghostbusters brand. With a new film coming out, the company probably wants to see this remaster do well, so we’ll likely see something about it.
Batman: Warner Bros. Games Montréal (Batman: Arkham Origins) has posted two teasers alluding to a new Batman game. This will probably be revealed during the State of Play.
There we have it. Those are my predictions for today’s PlayStation State of Play. Be sure to tune in and check back here for our thoughts on the show.
