Enjoyed the relationship-building and/or the high stakes turn-based strategy of Fire Emblem: Three Houses? Here are five more games you should check out.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses is being hailed as one of the best games of 2019, and a lot of people are enjoying the series and possibly even the genre of turn-based strategy games for the first time (because there aren’t a lot of them). Have you finished with the game but are looking for other games with similar qualities? Here are five games that have elements in common with  Fire Emblem: Three Houses available on modern platforms that you should check out:

Honorable mention: Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE (Wii U)

Though indeed not a one-to-one comparison, it would be fair to say Fire Emblem: Three Houses is what you might expect if you mixed the Fire Emblem series with the Persona series, you keep the turn-based strategy gameplay of the former but mix in some of the relationship and calendar schedule bits of the latter.

Another possible outcome of such a franchise crossover actually has been done already though and quite well. Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE is literally a crossover between the Shin Megami Tensei series that Persona is spun off of and Fire Emblem, even to the point where it features characters from the Fire Emblem series.

It is a traditional party turn-based RPG, but there’s still a lot of importance paid to building relationships between your characters in order for them to perform better in battle. It’s also one of the few RPGs to take place in a modern-day setting, which helps it feel a little fresher than say the high fantasy or science fiction settings you’ll find in most other games of this type.

The reason Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE only gets an honorable mention, however, is that it is currently only available on the much-maligned Nintendo Wii U system. Nintendo has ported many of its best Wii U titles to the Nintendo Switch, but a handful remains exclusive to that console.

Hopefully, this will be remedied in the near future as Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE is a great game that if you are a fan of Fire Emblem: Three Houses you would likely enjoy and deserves a shot at a much bigger audience.
