#8. Super Mario Maker 2
One of the Nintendo Switch’s biggest exclusives for 2019 is right around the corner. On June 28th, you’ll get to make your own 2D Mario levels in several different styles and try out others with Super Mario Maker 2.
The first Super Mario Maker was critically acclaimed, but as it was released on the Wii U, it was not appreciated by as many people as it should. It would certainly be understandable if Nintendo released even just the first game on Nintendo Switch with just a few tweaks or a fairly straight-forward sequel that was the same game with only a few new things to it.
Luckily, Nintendo did not do that and has gone all out with Super Mario Maker 2 to the point where even if you never have any intention of making a Mario level yourself, you might want to check it out. There’s a full single-player story mode with 100 levels created by Nintendo’s best and brightest in addition to several fun multi-player modes (though you cannot play with friends at online at launch, that is being patched in at a later date).
For those who do want to make new crazy levels, there is an insane amount of items, styles and other various additions to make truly customizable levels that you wouldn’t even think of seeing in your average 2D Super Mario game. It’ll be interesting to see not just how challenging, but really how creative people will get with the vast toolset at their disposal.
Super Mario Maker 2 will be out next Friday, June 28, and will potentially keep you busy until that Fall slate of games hits and likely beyond that as well.
