#1. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
Why is a remake of a Nintendo Gameboy game that came out 26 years ago the top Nintendo Switch exclusive you should be excited about for the rest of 2019? Firstly, it’s a remake of one of the best entries in the entire Legend of Zelda series. Secondly, this is no simple remake or straight port given a quick HD paint job.
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening has been given an entirely new look, updated mechanics and music along with all new features such as a dungeon creator. It’s a lot like the recently released Resident Evil 2 remake. The same story and basic structure are still intact, but everything else has been updated and improved. It’s practically a whole new game.
A new top-down Legend of Zelda game is something to get excited about and should be the most anticipated Nintendo Switch game coming out this year, but I’m also excited for the potential this remake has in terms of remakes for other classic games. There are many you could either do in this style or find another yet more modern look for classic Game Boy, NES, and Game Boy Color titles that haven’t been played or seen by many people in decades.
I hope this is the start of a trend and not just a one-off idea. Waken the Winf Fish once again when The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening sails to the Nintendo Switch on September 20.
