Pokemon Go: 2019 Fest features shinies and team challenges

Trainers, we are a day away from the this year’s Pokemon Go Fest and the game is releasing a plethora of activities and challenges to celebrate this year’s event.

Pokemon Go trainers who are looking to acquire some new shinies to their lineup are in luck. Beginning on June 13 at noon, PST, Horsea will appear more frequently in the wild.

Folks will have a chance to catch a shiny Horsea for the first time in Pokemon Go, and evolve it to a Seadra with 50 Horsea candies and finally a Kingdra after they evolve with 100 candies and a dragon scale.

Trainers will also be tasked with completing challenges. According to the Pokemon Go website, Professor Willow has tasked Spark (Team Instinct), Blanche (Team Mystic) and Candela (Team Valor) to put aside their differences and take on new challenges to grow as leaders and prepare them for any trouble that comes their way.

Each team leader will be responsible for rallying trainers to complete research both around the world, and at each of the three Pokémon GO Fest events throughout the summer.

During a Pokemon Go Fest event, trainers have a chance to complete challenges and unlock bonuses from their team leaders.

The website notes that if all three teams and the event attendees meet the research goals, a special bonus Raid Day will be unlocked during the bonus week. Completing more goals will unlock more bonuses.

Below are the listed challenges for each team:

SPARK CANDY RESEARCH CHALLENGE

Challenge Date + Time

June 13 at 9 a.m. to Sunday, June 16 at 5 p.m. PDT (GMT −7) – From start to finish of Pokémon GO Fest Chicago.

Challenge Research Tasks

• Pokémon GO Fest Chicago event attendees—Complete 1 million research tasks to unlock 2× Catch Candy
• Team Instinct—Complete 15 million research tasks globally to unlock guaranteed 1 Rare Candy per raid
• Team Valor—Complete 15 million research tasks globally to unlock 1/2 Hatch Distance
• Team Mystic—Complete 15 million research tasks globally to unlock 2× Hatch Candy
  Reward Bonus Date + Time

All successfully unlocked bonuses will run from June 18 at 1 p.m. until June 25 at 1 p.m. PDT.

Unlock all the above bonuses, and Raikou will be available in raids for a short period of time at a later date. Trainers may have a chance to encounter a shiny Raikou..

CANDELA’S XP RESEARCH CHALLENGE

Challenge Date + Time

July 4 at 1 a.m. to July 7 at 9 a.m. PDT (GMT −7) – From start to finish of Pokémon GO Fest Dortmund.

Challenge Research Tasks

• Pokémon GO Fest Dortmund event attendees—Complete 1 million research tasks to unlock 3× Catch XP
• Team Instinct—Complete 15 million research tasks globally to unlock 1-hour Lucky Eggs
• Team Valor—Complete 15 million research tasks globally to unlock 3× Hatch XP
• Team Mystic—Complete 15 million research tasks globally to unlock 2× Raid XP
  Reward Bonus Date + Time

All successfully unlocked bonuses will run from July 9 at 1 p.m. until July 16 at 1 p.m. PDT.

Unlock all the above bonuses, and Entei will be available in raids July 14 at a later time (time to be announced later). There’s also a chance trainers will encounter a shiny Entei.

BLANCHE’s STARDUST RESEARCH CHALLENGE

Challenge Date and Time

Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. to Aug. 12 at 1 a.m. PDT (GMT −7) – From start to finish of Pokémon GO Fest Yokohama.

Challenge Research Tasks

• Pokémon GO Fest Yokohama event attendees—Complete 2 million research tasks to unlock 3× Catch Stardust
• Team Instinct—Complete 25 million research tasks globally to unlock guaranteed 3,000 Stardust per raid
• Team Valor—Complete 25 million research tasks globally to unlock 3× Hatch Stardust
• Team Mystic—Complete 25 million research tasks globally to unlock 1-hour Star Pieces
  Reward Bonus Date + Time

All successfully unlocked bonuses will run from Aug. 13 at 1 p.m. until Aug. 20 at 1 p.m. PDT.

Unlock all the above bonuses, and Suicune will be available in raids on Saturday, Aug. 17 at a time to be later announced. Like the other two legendary dogs, trainers might come across a shiny Suicune.

The various challenges are a great way for trainers to come together and hunt Pokemon throughout the summer, as well as an opportunity to add some shinies to their lineup.
