With a bunch of long-awaited sequels to beloved franchises and some exciting new IP, 2019 is Nintendo’s year to take with their E3 2019 showcase.

Sony is so focused on 2020 and beyond they are skipping out on E3 2019. Microsoft is focused on the future as well, but they are using this year’s show to give you a reason to look forward to the future. Nintendo, on the other hand, is here and now and going to give Nintendo Switch owners stuff to be super excited about for the rest of 2019 after an admittedly subdued first half of the year.

With that in mind, if there’s a title Nintendo has already spent a lot of time on, it probably won’t be shown during its E3 2019 presentation. Any announcements regarding an extra mode in Super Mario Maker 2 or the next fighter DLC pack for Smash Bros. Ultimate will likely be during the scheduled tournaments Nintendo has going on for those games during the weekend before E3 2019 officially starts.

The following is what we expect, hope, and probably won’t see during Nintendo’s E3 2019 video presentation:

What we will see: Astral Chain

Sorry, Nintendo Switch fans, Bayonetta 3 is not coming your way this year (more on that later). However, if you are looking for a crazy and weird action-adventure game from Platinum Games (from Bayonetta series creator Hideki Kamiya no less), you’ve still got something to look forward to in that vein this year with Astral Chain.

We first saw Astral Chain a few months ago, but only for a couple of minutes. What we could glean from that trailer is that the game has two protagonists that are some officers that fight otherworldly beings and have an otherworldly being attached to them via a chain that helps them take on these creatures. There’s a terrorist plot and some vast conspiracy they get wrapped up in, but the first trailer didn’t really go into details on that.

The release for Astral Chain is coming up fairly quickly (August 30) and we haven’t seen anything since that first trailer, so expect to see more of this game during Nintendo’s E3 2019 presentation. Platinum Games pretty much knocks it out the park every time they make a crazy action-adventure game, and Astral Chain promises to continue that trend when it releases in just about three months.
