What We Will See: Gears of War 5/Gears Tactics

Microsoft showed last year that they are going in hard on exploiting the Gears of War franchise. We’ve got a brand new entry and a couple of spin-offs on the way this year in what is likely to be Microsoft’s last big exclusive titles for this generation of hardware. Whatever they have planned is seemingly just around the corner.

Gears of War 5 had a mostly cinematic trailer at last year’s E3, so expect a proper and full unveiling at this year’s show. We’ll get to see more of a world we haven’t seen in three years (since Gears of War 4) that, at least from the last trailer, looks to deeper and more realized than the previous entry.

We only had the briefest glimpse of Gears Tactics at last year’s E3, but it was enough to get people interested. What would incorporating the spirit of the Gears of War franchise into a turn-based tactical setting actually be like?

I’ve never been a huge fan of the Gears franchise as a whole, but as someone who is very into turn-based strategy games — especially ones that try and do something different than your usual medieval fantasy setting and style — this piqued my interest immediately. I am really excited for a turn-based strategy game that feels a little more modern and faster-paced than what we are used to from this genre in general.

Maybe this could be a whole spin-off franchise of its own with its own set of cool sequels if done correctly. Bottom line, you’ll be getting your fill of Gears of War this year at Microsoft’s E3 2019 presentation.
