Starting Pitcher: Jacob deGrom

Team – New York Mets

It’s only fitting that the last and arguably the most critical position on our list, also would be the toughest for choosing who’d be king. In the end, Jacob deGrom comes out on top, and don’t let his 10-9 record fool you.

deGrom was fourth in the league in strikeouts last season and second in WAR. By far the most impressive stat was his ERA where he had a 1.70 (!!) while pitching the second most innings in baseball.

He also only allowed 46 walks so if big scary power hitters think they’re going to get a free pass from deGrom, then think again. In MLB The Show 19 he’ll undoubtedly be a blend of a strikeout and ground ball forcing pitcher.

The list of great starting pitchers runs deep in baseball, but for now, deGrom is the king of the mound.

Honorable Mentions:

Aaron Nola – The one guy who was likely the biggest threat to deGrom, the 17 game-winner wasn’t known for getting the K’s but was dangerous nonetheless, ranking ninth in strikeouts. His 2.37 ERA was good for fourth, and his 10.5 WAR is second in all of baseball, only behind Mookie Betts. His incredible balance and consistency will make him one of the highest rated players in MLB The Show 19.

Max Scherzer – A strikeout machine, Scherzer led the NL in K’s for the third time in his career, leading the entire league last season. A player that doesn’t seem to slow down, his 18 wins were good for a tie for fourth to go along with his 300 strikeouts. With these numbers, he’ll receive a handsome rating in MLB The Show 19, and a ticket to Cooperstown down the road.
