DId you enjoy the naval combat in Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag? If so, Skull & Bones looks like a great option for all you pirate lovers looking to scratch that ship-battling itch. Ubisoft realized it had something on their hands with Black Flag and ran with it. Except rather than shoehorning pirates into an assassin’s game, the pirates are the sole focus here. There’s a lack of good pirate games on the market, so we’re interested in seeing what Skull & Bones brings to the high seas.

Skull & Bones is a tactical third-person open-world action game where players create their own pirate captain and set sail on the Indian Ocean. Players can sail by themselves through the game’s single-player campaign or join multiplayer games with up to five other allies or enemies. Skull & Bones includes a variety of different unlockable ships and weapons, ship disguises, customizable hideouts, the ability to board enemy ships, and of course, treasure hunting.

From some of the gameplay demos we’ve seen thus far, Skull & Bones shows some serious potential for players looking to live out a more realistic and badass pirate fantasy that other games like Sea of Thieves don’t provide. The graphics look amazing, the ship fights look like a blast, and the gameplay looks challenging enough to hold our interest, whether we’re playing by ourselves or with friends. While Ubisoft hasn’t given us an exact release date yet, we are looking forward to getting our pirate swag on in 2019.
