Ok, so we admit that including The Last of Us Part II on this list might be a stretch. Neither Naughty Dog nor Sony have said anything definitive about their plans to release the game in 2019. However, the game has been in development since 2014 and has intermittently dropped trailers since 2016. There is definitely a good possibility of a 2019 release date for The Last of Us Part II. And after seeing how the game has progressed at Sony’s E3 2018 showcase, it’s understandable why The Last of Us Part II is constantly winning “most anticipated game” awards.

The game will take place five years after the end of its predecessor, and its story is supposed to be heavily tied to the first title. Both Ellie and Joel will play a role in Part II, with players controlling Ellie. This past E3, we got a look at some gameplay for Part II which showed fast-paced combat and cover seamlessly intertwined, with gritty and gory kills galore. Yet the game also showed Ellie’s softer side, including one of the most heartwarming and realistic kissing scenes in a video game we’ve ever seen.

While there is a lot about the story we still don’t know, what we have seen thus far from Naughty Dog and Sony is wicked exciting. The gameplay looks intense and silky smooth, the motion capture animations are extremely realistic, and the soundtrack already sounds killer. We are holding onto a shred of hope that The Last of Us Part II does come out this year because we aren’t sure how much longer we can wait!
