Developer: Game Freak
Publisher: Nintendo, The Pokemon Company
Platform(s): Nintendo Switch
Release Date: TBD 2019
Similar to Animal Crossing, we don’t know much about Nintendo’s plan for Pokemon in 2019. While the Let’s Go, Eevee! and Let’s Go, Pikachu! games were released on the Switch late last year, we’re still waiting on the big next generation Pokemon game. It’s been confirmed that a new installment is coming in “late 2019,” but the specifics have yet to be revealed, other than it will follow in the footsteps of the recent mainline games in the series, Pokemon Sun and Moon.
While technically the Switch is a bit of a hybrid machine, this will be the first mainline Pokemon game released on a home console. It will be interesting to see how Game Freak utilizes the power and portability of the Nintendo Switch. We’re excited to see what direction they will take the game’s graphics as well as what dynamic gameplay elements they might incorporate that previous handheld hardware couldn’t handle.
At this point, all we can do is guess about what this next generation Pokemon game will bring. But do we really need to know any more to get excited about a new Pokemon game? Here’s hoping it introduces some awesome new features thanks to the improved graphics on the Switch. In the meantime, we will keep grinding away at our Pokedex in Let’s Go, Pikachu! until the inevitable Nintendo Direct Pokemon reveal later this year.
