Although many gamers were upset about Anthem after its reveal at E3 2017, we have high hopes for BioWare and EA’s upcoming online multiplayer action RPG/looter shooter style game. Granted, this is a bit of a departure from BioWare’s typical RPGs like Mass Effect and Dragon Age. Anthem is more like BioWare’s take on Destiny or The Division, something they’ve never done before. We’re very curious to see their take on this style of third-person shooter, which takes place in a unique new “science fantasy” universe.

Anthem features a shared open world that you can explore with up to three other players cooperatively. Each character is wearing a customizable mech suit that can be modified with various weapons and abilities based on their class. For example, the Colossus suit is heavily armored and acts as the ‘tank’, while the Interceptor is a more damage-focused class that excels in moving quickly in and out of close-quarters combat. You can easily switch load-outs to try out different classes too, a welcome feature in any RPG.

Players can complete missions they picked up in the central hub or explore the world on their own or with their friends, experiencing dynamic events and scenarios. There are a variety of different enemies and creatures throughout the world, some hostile and others not.

We love the idea that Anthem is more “science fantasy” than “science fiction”, and look forward to this new gorgeous universe BioWare has created. Even if they did leave behind the ability to romance NPCs, a classic feature of BioWare RPGs, flying around like Iron Man shooting spider-like aliens still sounds pretty damn awesome.
