Lucky for us, fast traveling in Red Dead Online is much easier than in the single-player campaign of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Red Dead Online shares the same huge, map as Red Dead Redemption 2, which means it can take a while to get around on horseback. Luckily, the new online experience features a fast travel feature. And unlike Red Dead Redemption 2’s single-player campaign, it’s not completely gated behind upgrades and is much easier to access.

To access fast-travel, you must first open up your map and find a signpost icon. Unlike other map icons, these don’t necessarily show up unless you’re relatively close by. There are fifteen total fast travel locations spread out around the map in most towns and major points of interest, such as Valentine and Manzanita Post.

Unfortunately, you have to physically go to these locations to use the fast travel system. Once there, you have to find the actual post, marked with a broken wheel and ram skull. This will bring up the fast travel menu dialog, from which you can select your target location. The farther the location is, the most expensive it will cost. Fast travel prices typically range between $2-$8. Once you make a fast travel purchase, you will be instantly teleported to your target destination.

You can also fast travel back to your camp once you reach rank 65. Yes, 65 – this fast travel location is going to take a while to unlock. This upgrade can be purchased from Cripps through the Wilderness Outfitters menu, under Equipment. This fast travel post will work the exact same as the others spread throughout the map.

While this is the main method of fast traveling in Red Dead Online, it’s not the only method. You can also use the stagecoaches to travel around just like you did in the single-player campaign of Red Dead Redemption 2. This costs similar to the fast travel posts, and again requires you to physically go to a stagecoach location.

You can also change locations via the pause menu  (with a few caveats). On the pause menu, go to the Online submenu. From here you can choose one of the free-roam location options. This will transport you to these locations, but will also remove you from your current lobby. Of course, this also means long loading screens. Plus it drops your character randomly throughout the region instead of at any specific location. But it’s also free!

While you might be strapped for cash early on in Red Dead Online, fast travel is an important feature that will save you tons of time in the long-run. Getting from point A to point B on horseback can take a long time thanks to the huge, sprawling map. So if you’re in a rush, don’t forget to look for those fast travel posts!
